GCYJ Big Band 2020-2021 Audition Information
What Instruments are we looking for? Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, (Saxophones players who can double clarinet and flute are encouraged), Trumpet, Lead Trumpet, Trombone, Bass Trombone, Guitar, Piano, Vibraphone, Bass (Upright encouraged), Drum set. What to expect at the audition. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic we have made the decision to not have live auditions this year and instead request video auditions. For instructions on how to record your video, please click here. Because of this, we are slightly modifying the jazz audition to include a downloadable backing track for applicants. Please refer to each instrument group below for updated audition requirements and recording order. Horn applicants (Trumpets, Trombone, Alto, Tenor, & Baritone Saxophone) should record the following in the order 1. The jazz chart "Big Dipper", available for download on this page. We would like you to play the head only. Play with a metronome at 136 bpm, metronome needs to be heard on video. 2. Play Blues Etude no. 1, available for download on this page. 3.Improvise over the backing track. The backing track needs to be heard on the recording. Piano, Vibraphone, and Guitar applicants should record the following, in this order: 1. The jazz chart "Big Dipper", available for download on this page. We would like you to play the head only. Play with metronome, at 136 bpm, metronome needs to be heard on video. 2. Play Blues Etude no. 1, available for download on this page. 3. Improvise over the backing track. The backing track needs to be heard on the recording. 4. Comp over the backing track. The backing track needs to be heard on the recording.
